Today, I died and went to fabric Heaven.
Zack and I are visiting my parents in their little country town of Lawrenceburg, TN. When I say a country town, I mean country in the fullest sense of the word...if Walmart doesn't have it, then you aren't going to get it...including your groceries.
Little did I know that the greatest fabric shopping experience of my life is just an hour down the road. My mother and I loaded Zack in the car and headed down to
Sir's Fabric in Fayetteville, TN. Looking online, I thought it was going to be a bunch of upholstery and drapery fabrics, but boy, was I wrong. They definitely had a ton of those types of fabrics, but there was also everything else you could ever imagine -- bridal fabrics, suiting fabrics, quilting fabrics, cotton knits, silks, trims, ribbons, buttons -- my heart is racing again just thinking about it all! There were three buildings of table after table of folded fabrics and rack after rack of fantastic bolts.
The prices were simply unbelievable. I bought over 30 yards of fabric (cottons, denims, knits), buttons and ribbons and spent just under $100. My best buy? Four yards of a gorgeous khaki corduroy for 88 cents a yard! Even better, it was exactly what I needed to complete a darling little cowboy themed outfit that I'm designing. I'm sure you'll get to see that one soon on a blog near you. ;)
Knowing what I know now, I will never again dread a trip to this little country town again. The next time my parents want Zack and I to come out for a week's visit, my answer will simply be, "Yes, Sir!"
